US healthcare providers are stepping up their use of artificial intelligence to manage administrative workloads as staffing shortages and rising paperwork continue to pressure operations. The trend has drawn fresh attention with new funding for Honey Health, a company developing automated workflow tools for medical groups.

Honey Health said more than 100 groups now use its software agents to handle routine tasks such as referrals, record updates and insurance processing. The company argues that automating these functions allows clinicians to spend more time with patients while reducing operational strain. Early adopters have reported fewer bottlenecks without adding staff.

The shift reflects broader investment momentum. Funding for healthcare AI has increased this year, encouraging start-ups to target long-standing inefficiencies in claims and documentation. Counterforce Health, for instance, is testing automated tools for insurance claim appeals as part of efforts to shorten turnaround times.

Analysts, however, caution that adoption may vary. Smaller practices often face higher integration costs, and rapid product development continues to raise questions about oversight and data governance. Some advisers note that the benefits of automation tend to emerge only after systems are tailored to local workflows.

Even so, early evidence suggests automation can support rather than displace workers by reducing repetitive tasks and easing daily pressure. Pilot programmes across the sector are expanding as organisations assess how AI might improve responsiveness and patient support.

Further scaling and regulatory clarity remain unresolved, but the direction of travel points to steady uptake. Providers experimenting with these tools now are likely to shape emerging standards for administrative processes in US healthcare.
